Last Friday, I had the privilege of touring the Gateway Center with fellow Gallery homeowners. What was once a city jail has been transformed into a place of restoration and dignity, providing shelter and services to over 380 men experiencing homelessness every single day.
For more than 30 years, Jack Hardin, our neighbor and a tireless volunteer has given his time and heart to this mission. His quiet leadership reminds us that real change doesn’t always happen in headlines, but in the daily work of showing up for those who need us most.
Walking through the halls of Gateway, I couldn’t help but reflect:
We go through our lives with warm homes, food on our tables, and clothes on our backs, comforts we often take for granted. But for many, survival depends on the kindness of strangers.
Gateway is more than a shelter. It is a gateway to dignity, stability, and hope. Each bed, each meal, each service offered is a reminder that Atlanta is at its best when we invest in people, when we believe in second chances, and when we choose compassion over indifference.
Lunch at Paschal's, an Atlanta tradition from the Civil Rights day, what a great, meal with fellowship and love. Thank you, Jack.
I left with a full heart, humbled and inspired by what is being done here. And with a renewed commitment to ask myself: How can I do more?
Because at the end of the day, home is not just a place, it is a human right.
